I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve partnered with my long-term friends and renowned photographers Robert Holmes and Andrea Johnson to lead a special photo tour of Cuba in January 2016, fulfilling a dream that we’ve been discussing for several years.
As Bob and Andrea write on their website (www.lumariaworkshops.com), “This will be an astonishing journey through a Cuba rarely experienced by tourists. We are offering this unique trip to a small group of photographers allowing us access to many places off the grid. Cuba offers a photographic feast at any time. This trip will blow you away.”
Cuba is changing rapidly and now is the time to go while “old” Cuba still exists… a country trapped , in so many ways, in a colonial and 1950s time warp that Hollywood stage-set designers can only dream of.
We are planning to go in late January 2016 when the weather should be ideal. Plus, we’ll focus our time and lenses on capturing and captivating the cities of Havana and Trinidad.
Plus, in addition to myself, you’ll be traveling with two of the world’s preeminent travel photographers…
Bob, who has four times been named by the Society of American Travel Writers as ‘Travel Photographer of the Year,’ also wrote the forward to my coffee-table book, Cuba Classics: A Celebration of Vintage American Automobiles. He has illustrated more than 40 books and has regularly been one of the elite group of the world’s 100 best photojournalists invited to participate in the acclaimed “Day in the Life” series.
Andrea is acclaimed for her work for top food, wine and travel magazines and major newspapers. She has photographed four wine books: Passion for Pinot, Essential Wines and Wineries of the Pacific Northwest, Spectacular Washington Wineries, and Spectacular Oregon Wineries.
If the date (still to be announced) doesn’t work out, I invite you to join me on National Geographic Expeditions’ “Cuba & Its People: A Photographic Expedition” in February, 2016.
