Award-winning travel writer, motojournalist and motorcycle tour leader Christopher P. Baker has teamed with HertzRide to lead motorcycle tours of California and the USA, in association with BMW Motorrad.
A Portugal-based franchisee of The Hertz Corporation Hertz, HertzRide Europe recently began renting motorcycles and offering guided tours in the USA under the brand name HertzRide USA. Launched on October 1, 2019, the luxury motorcycle rental and tour company currently has two locations—BMW Motorcycles of Las Vegas and BMW Motorcycles of Riverside—where riders can rent BMWs. The company is also in negotiation to open rental/tour locations in Long Beach, Chicago and San Francisco, with additional outlets to follow.
Working exclusively with BMW Motorrad, HertzRide’s lineup of luxury rides includes the BMW F750GS, R1250GS, R1250RT, RnineT Scrambler, K1600, and K1600 Grand America. HertzRide equips all bikes with keyless ignition, side panniers, and top case, and provides 24/7 roadside assistance.
In 2018, Christopher P. Baker was invited to design a series of USA discovery tours for HertzRide. The routes include 8- and 14-day California options, a 16-day ‘Miami & Deep South’ itinerary, plus the iconic Route 66 route. The routes can be followed as self-guided tours. Or you can request Chris as an expert tour guide. The options also include guide-led group rides on select dates, with a support vehicle for luggage transportation.
Chris literally wrote the book on California… well, actually six books, including Back Roads California: 24 Leisurely Drives and the Frommer’s American on Wheels: California & Nevada guidebooks. He also wrote and photographed Palm Springs & Desert Resorts plus Top 10 California Wine Country, and is the editor of the Top 20 Las Vegas, National Geographic Traveler California and National Geographic Arizona guidebooks.
He has led custom group tours for Bob’s BMW of Maine and the BMW Riding Academy of Turkey, as well as several leading international motorcycle tour companies.
